There have been many books written about Jackie Kennedy (1929-1994) but this one is about her years as a young woman trying to work out the course of her life and offers a portrait of the future First Lady as an aspiring journalist. Primarily set in the late 1980s and early 1950s when she was in her early 20s: She wanted to become a writer and was the Washington Times-Herald's "Inquiring Camera Girl." She posed questions to people on the street, took their pictures, and from this produced a daily column. The book makes it clear that the young Jackie wanted to chart her own path rather than that imposed by the various schools she attended or her societal position. This is a wonderful coming-of-age story about the woman who went on to become the most notable woman in the world. It's a great book that all readers will enjoy.
